Egyptian coffee (ahwa mazbuta)
Most Arab countries throughout the world have developed unique methods for brewing and preparing coffee.
A kanaka pot is used to brew the coffee in Egypt & it is normally served in a small cup with lots of sugar. Cardamom is often added to the coffee to create a very distinctive flavour.
In every Egyptian home they serve coffee. It is always served at weddings and throughout the month of Ramadan.
Coffee shops (ahwa) can be found on every street in Egypt, where men go at the end of the day to smoke a shisha pipe & drink coffee with their friends. They play backgammon or dominos & catch up on the latest gossip.
Tea is also a very popular drink in Egypt. Which is the most popular.....you decide!
