Are Egypt and Jordan Safe Destinations?

Is it safe to travel to Egypt and Jordan? The short answer to this question is yes. Egypt and Jordan are generally safe and friendly countries for foreigners and are open to tourists. Both countries guarantee a peaceful vacation and sightseeing experience. You can travel there without worrying about your safety when you join us for one of the best luxury tours of Egypt and Jordan.

The Inside Egypt team monitors the level of security all the time with the authorities, government officials and the tourist police of these countries. The safety, well-being and health of our guests is our highest priority.

In both countries, you can find a lot of police and military on the streets and police checkpoints on the roads. Before entering shopping centers, hypermarkets, museums, tourist places and public administration offices, as well as in places of larger gatherings, e.g. concerts or other cultural events, you should take into account possible checks of bags and backpacks, which should be allowed.

It is possible that the security may ask to carry out a detailed baggage check as you enter both Egypt and Jordan for items/drugs/alcohol that are forbidden to import.

Egypt and Jordan remain countries with a low crime risk. Criminal activity against foreigners is rare, but you should be extra vigilant in touristy and crowded areas. Occasionally there are minor crimes, including pickpocketing, and for these reasons the possession of valuables, cash and valuables should not be exposed.

Tourists should be mindful of cultural differences in these countries. Some Egyptians and Jordanians may perceive seemingly harmless behavior, such as driving in the front seat of a taxi or even polite conversation with the opposite sex as allowing or inviting further contact. You should take into account possible observations, usually resulting from curiosity. Violation of bodily inviolability, however, is very rare. Both societies are also characterized by low levels of aggression.

Overall, Egyptians and Jordanians are very friendly people, who want you to enjoy your visit to their country. They will look out for you on every part of your trip, making sure that you look back on your private tours of Egypt and Jordan as positive experiences and with great memories to share with your family and friends.

Tips to Enjoy the Most out of Jordan

Jordan is a relatively small country that surprises you with its extraordinary hospitality, traces of a fascinating history and rich cultural heritage. It is definitely a country with many attractions and surprises. Jordan is a tourist-friendly and peaceful place, a real oasis open to guests from around the world, so don't hesitate any longer and plan your Egypt and Jordan holidays now!

Below you will find some useful information to make your trip to Jordan and Egypt as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

The best time to visit Egypt and Jordan is early spring, i.e. March and April, and autumn, i.e. October and November. The probability of rain at this time is very small and daytime temperatures are not too high, but are much lower than in summer. The evenings are warm and pleasant.

The official language of Jordan is Arabic. You will find that in tourist destinations, hotels and at the Amman airport, you can communicate easily in English.
The currency of Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar or JOD, and the time zone in Jordan is UTC + 2 in winter, UTC + 3 in summer.
A tourist visa to Jordan costs 40 JOD and this can be purchased at the Amman airport upon arrival. The visa entitles you to stay for 30 days in Jordan.
US dollars should definitely be taken to Jordan. However, remember not to exchange your money at the exchange office at the airport as the rate is very unfavorable. It's best to withdraw some dinars from the ATM to cover your first expenses before you reach the exchange office.

Do not use your mobile data in Jordan as you will lose a fortune on this! Consider purchasing a SIM card upon arrival at Amman Airport. There are three mobile operators to choose from: Orange, Umniah and Zain. There is WiFi available in the hotels in Jordan and this may be enough for many people.

It is a good idea to bring an adapter for British plugs (with three pins), as some hotels have British plug sockets.

Remember that Jordanian food, while delicious, is completely different to what you are used to. The bacterial flora is also different, so it's worth taking medications for stomach problems with you, just in case. In smaller towns, it is difficult to find ATMs or exchange offices, so it is worth having exchanged cash with you.

When entering the mosque, be sure to wear the appropriate dress. Women, if allowed to enter, should cover the whole body, including the head, and take off their shoes before entering. Do not go inside during prayer hours, wait for it to end.

Please respect local culture and customs. Do not go under-dressed, and if you want to sunbathe in a bikini, remember to do it only in permitted places - on hotel beaches. Jordanians are a tolerant nation, but due to local customs, it is not appropriate to show too much skin - instead of short shorts, wear a skirt over the knee or a flowing dress or loose pants.

It is worth buying cosmetics from the Dead Sea from Jordan. The selection is amazing. From soaps, to gels, peelings, lotions and creams. It's also worth buying Arabic perfumes in cubes that look like soap and act like perfume. They come in a variety of fragrances and are sold in beautiful metal cans. You can rub it, for example, on the wrists. A very popular fragrance is musk amber. An original souvenir from Jordan is the famous Tree of Life - mosaic showing the oldest known map of the Holy Land from the 6th century. In almost every gift shop you can find a huge selection of mosaics with the biblical Tree of Life and some are really huge. A camel's wool rug purchased from the Bedouins in the Wadi Rum desert can also be an interesting souvenir from Jordan. However, if you like these things, you need to be prepared to spend more.

Don't leave buying souvenirs for the end of your Egypt and Jordan trip, because you can pay more for them at the airport than you would at the local shops!
