Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino is located in Cairo, in trendy district Az-Zamalek situated west of the city center, on an island in the Nile river. The hotel is composed from historic part of Gazira Palace, which was built in 1869, and the newer part-the twin towers located on the right and the left side of the palace.
In the part of Gezira, there are antique interiors with stylish furniture and fittings, in which conferences, business meetings, banquets, glamorous dinners and wedding ceremonies occur. In the newer part- there are comfortable rooms and suites with balconies. There are many restaurants and a casino on the premises of the hotel.
From the hotel rooms, beautiful views are spread onto the Nile and Cairo center as well as on the beautiful hotel gardens and swimming pool.
The hotel was built at the opening of the Suez Canal. It entertained important people from all over the world, who marked the ceremony of opening the Canal.
Over the years European monarchs lived in the hotel, including Empress Eugene, the wife of Napoleon III. The hotel was also the first place where Opera Aida by Verdi was played.
In the past, wedding ceremonies of many Egyptian monarchs and dignitaries took place here. Some of these celebrations lasted for 40 days! Up till now, it is a very trendy place among wealthy Egyptians for having wedding ceremonies there.
It is worth mentioning that during War World 1 in 1915, the hotel was used as a wartime hospital. There was Number 2 Australian General Hospital which had to cope with a huge number of casualties from the Battle of Gallipoli (Turkey).
Currently the hotel is frequently visited by tourists from all over the world due to its unique location and tourist attractions placed in the hotel’s nearby neighborhood.
