On a visit to Egypt, you must try the street food at least once. This is the food that is eaten by locals every day, so you are guaranteed a truly authentic taste of the country.
If there is any dish that could be considered Egypt's national dish, it’s Foul medames.
Foul medames is made with cooked fava beans, combined with lots of different spices and traditionally served with pitta bread. Locals typically eat foul for breakfast, as it is a hearty dish that is protein-rich and will fill you up for the whole day. Egyptians traditionally eat foul in combination with taameya, an Egyptian falafel. You will find both at nearly every street vendor in Cairo.
