The wait is finally over, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) was officially inaugurated on November 1, 2025, during a grand opening ceremony led by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Just a few days later, on November 4, 2025, the museum opened its doors to the public, marking a historic moment for Egypt and for travelers from around the world. The GEM is now fully accessible, offering an unparalleled experience of the wonders of ancient Egypt.

The museum’s exhibition spans 12 vast main halls covering 45,000 m², complemented by beautifully designed gardens, a shopping area, restaurants, the impressive Glass Lobby, the Hanging Obelisk, and the breathtaking Grand Staircase.

One of the most anticipated highlights is the complete collection from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, displayed for the first time in its entirety, more than 5,000 artifacts, including golden mask, beds, thrones, statues, and chariots, all discovered in the boy king’s tomb in Luxor. Visitors can also admire treasures from every era of Egyptian history, from the pre-dynastic period to the Greco-Roman era, presented through three main themes of ancient Egyptian civilization: kingship, society, and beliefs.

Altogether, the museum showcases over 100,000 artifacts. Exhibits are arranged by dynasty and historical order, offering a comprehensive journey through Egypt’s extraordinary past.

Located on the Giza Plateau, just two kilometers from the Great Pyramids of Giza, the museum is connected to the pyramid complex by a 500-meter-wide promenade. The surrounding area has been fully revitalized, featuring modern access roads, landscaped public spaces, and state-of-the-art visitor facilities, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience.

It is not only a cultural treasure but also one of the most inclusive and modern museums in the world.

Construction of the museum began in 2005, with total costs exceeding $1.5 billion, including a significant contribution from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Monumental Tombs: Demonstrating the grandeur of rulers and their deep connections to the divine.

Funerary Texts: These texts reflect the evolving beliefs about the afterlife and divine protection.

New Kingdom
The New Kingdom period marks the zenith of ancient Egypt's imperial power, showcasing the legacies of prominent figures like Ramesses II and Hatshepsut. Highlights of this gallery include:

Royal Statues and Monuments: Reflecting the grandeur of pharaonic rule and military triumphs.
Temple Artifacts: Items dedicated to gods, illustrating the elaborate religious practices of the time and the significance of temples in the lives of Egyptians.

Third Intermediate to the Graeco-Roman Period

Artistic Blends: Objects that showcase the fusion of Egyptian and Hellenistic cultures, especially from the Ptolemaic Dynasty.
Burial Customs: Items reflecting how traditional beliefs in the afterlife continued amidst changing cultural influences.

The museum’s collection of artifacts from the famous tomb of Tutankhamun in Luxor became the pride of the institution.
